Review: Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Liner

Price: AU$13.95
Rating: 4.5/5

I like my eyeliner like I like my coffee, strong and black (the coffee part is a lie; I like my coffee iced and preferably three quarters milk). When I first started experimenting with eyeliner, I was purchased a generic ‘texta’ application eyeliner pen (‘texta’, ‘felt-tip’, you know, the pen one?).

It was meant to be black, but instead left a very pale, watery grey line that lasted about half an hour. As a result, I steered away from the ‘texta’ eyeliner pens. However, my ‘eureka’ moment came in 2012 when I tried the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Liner in Blackest Black. Hallelujah!
The eyeliner is extremely easy to apply and the fine tip means I can easily choose how thick I would like to make the line - a clean, thin line for everyday, or an inch-thick black smear for prowling around at night. The colour is, quite genuinely, the “blackest black”, not some pale and insipid inferior black. It lasts all day and is almost completely water and smudge-proof.

Oooh, look at that!
Ultimately, this is one of the best eyeliners I have ever had the good fortune of using. I’ve been using the same, original tube I was given in 2012 and only now have I had to replace it. That’s a solid year and a half of near-constant use, which also proves its longevity. It is simple to use and leaves a beautiful, smooth, strong line that doesn’t budge, which is everything you should ever want and need in a good eyeliner pen.
